Dark Sun

Dark Sun (禍津陽, magatsuhi) is a term that appears in Fatal Frame V. It refers to an eternal sunset that sits on the border between the human realm and the underworld, shining upon the surface of the Shadowspring, the gateway to the underworld. It is incredibly beautiful, only visible to those called to by death, eventually beckoning them to the Netherworld. The souls led to it stand beneath it, staring up, before finally fading away. Many of those who enter Mount Hikami mention seeing a beautiful sunset in notes they leave behind, and how much they wish to see it again.
In the area around the mountain, the Dark Sun was particularly feared by those who did not wish to die, and people would avoid looking at the mountain at sunset. When the Dark Sun was accompanied by rumbling from the mountain, residents would stay inside and wash with Mikomori-san, seeing it as a sign of impending calamity. After the disaster, when the black water overflowed, Keiji Watarai records that black mist turned the sun crimson for a time, and the border between worlds grew indistinct.[1]
Those who venture into the mountain seeking death are said to have to enter the mountain at sunset, the witching hour, as it is supposedly the time when the real world is closest to the Hidden World.
