Fatal Frame: A Curse Affecting Only Girls is a Fatal Frame spin-off novel by Eiji Otsuka. It was written as part of the Zero Media Mix.
It was due to be published on 29 August 2014,[1] but was widely listed as out of stock on the release date. As well as a physical edition, the book was also released in digital format on the Kindle[2] and Bookwalker.[3]
The movie based on the novel was released in September 2014.[4]
Synopsis
Kasumi, who lives at an all-female boarding school, wants to be like Aya, the most beautiful girl in her class. Aya says, "Kiss my photo a thousandth of a second before 12am." If you do, you'll be cursed just like her...
Creation and Influences
The book was written as a new Fatal Frame story to be adapted into a movie, as it was thought that adapting the existing games into film would be too difficult for various reasons.[5] Keywords and themes from Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water influenced the story, such as the importance of water, ghost marriage, and a cursed photograph. Otsuka was also influenced by other media like the movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" (1975), the manga "Sakura no Sono" by Akimi Yoshida, and the famous painting of Ophelia by John Everett Millais.
