Functions are special add-ons found within the Fatal Frame games that help increase the powers and abilities of the Camera Obscura. They can be obtained through standard gameplay or awarded for completing specific objectives (such as completing the Spirit List or mission mode).

Alarm

A tone warns you of the exact Fatal Frame moment. (Appears in FF2, FF3 and FF4.)

Chase

Automatically follows ghosts' movements while holding down the R2 button. Similar to the The "Track" Lens. (Appears in FF1.)

Chime

Chimes when Hozuki Doll is near. (Appears in FF4.)

Evade

When equipped, it allows the player to escape being caught by ghosts by pressing the shutter button at the right moment. (Appears in FF2, FF3, FF4, DCB and FF5.)

Zero / Festival / Optimal

When this function is equipped, the camera's spirit power is always fully charged. In the first Fatal Frame game, this function is called the Zero Function; in FF3, FF4 and FF5 it is called Festival; in DCB it is called Optimal. (Appears in FF1, FF3, FF4 and DCB.)

Instant

When equipped, it warns you of a Fatal Frame shot (the most powerful shot) by making the light in the upper part of the viewfinder flash red. (Appears in FF3.)

None / Infinity

A function that allows any type of film in the character's inventory to become infinite. In the first Fatal Frame game, this function is called the None Function. (Appears in FF1, FF3, FF4, DCB and FF5.)

Measure

When equipped, it allows players to see how much health the closest enemy (or locked-on target in FF5) has left. (Appears in FF2, FF3, FF4 and FF5.)

Track

When this function is equipped, it allows the player to automatically turn the camera towards the nearest hostile ghost. (Appears in FF1 and FF3.)

Save / Exploit / Moon

This function allows players to raise the amount of spirit power gained when damaging spirits. In FF2, it also quickens charge speed. (Appears in FF2 and FF4.)

Sense

In Fatal Frame, displays cross-hairs in the center of the screen, which indicate where the ghost is in relation to the player. In the rest of the series, when equipped, it allows players to see ghosts that weren't normally visible before. (Appears in FF1, FF2, FF3, FF4 and DCB.)

Switch

Allows the player to equip up to three power-up lenses at the same time, and switch between them. (Appears in FF2, FF3, FF4 and FF5.)

Zoom

When equipped, it allows players to zoom in and out with the camera, widening or shrinking the camera's viewfinder range, and making ghosts easier to shoot. (Appears in FF1, FF2 and FF3.)
