Fuyuhi Himino is a character in Fatal Frame V. She goes to Kurosawa's Antiques to request help in finding her friend Haruka Momose, who went to Mount Hikami.
Past
Haruka and Fuyuhi have been close friends since childhood, and both look back on their kindergarten graduation as a time when they were both particularly happy. The song they sung together at the ceremony, the Song of Memories, is meaningful for both of them, and they can both be heard singing it at multiple points in the game.
Fuyuhi was once a regular visitor to Kurosawa's Antiques to have her fortune read.[2] Before the events of Fatal Frame V, she and Haruka went to the mountain with three other girls from their school - Chiaki, Natsuho and Tsuyuno - intending to commit suicide. Chiaki, who led them there, was under the influence of the Guardians, and compelled to recreate their deaths. All five girls walked into the lake to drown themselves, but Fuyuhi and Haruka survived, and kept what had happened a secret, always intending to return someday and join the others in death. They stopped visiting the antiques shop, but became closer to one another than ever, often reminiscing about the past.[3]
Fatal Frame V
Called by a beautiful sunset that only she can see, Haruka returns to the mountain by herself. Fuyuhi is deeply upset that Haruka would leave without telling her after they had promised to die together,[4] and calls Kurosawa's Antiques to ask for Hisoka's help in finding her friend. Hisoka asks for time to think, and reluctantly takes the case, but when she fails to return, Fuyuhi decides that she will go to the mountain by herself. In the Second Drop, Yuri Kozukata goes after her.
She eventually finds Fuyuhi wandering in the Unfathomable Forest, and promises to look for Haruka if Fuyuhi will come back with her. They pass the Shrine of Dolls, and Fuyuhi insists that Haruka is inside, but Yuri is reluctant to explore with Fuyuhi in tow. As they head back to Kurosawa's Antiques, Fuyuhi wanders off. She sees a knife gleaming in the river and picks it up. As soon as she does, the spirit of a woman appears on the other side of the river, covered in blood. Fuyuhi's hand, holding the knife, moves against her will as the ghost tries to force her to cut her own throat. Initially Fuyuhi struggles, but she is distracted by a vision of Haruka that appears nearby, and in that moment the knife slips. As she bleeds out, she realises the woman standing nearby was not Haruka after all, but one of the shrine maidens.
By the time Yuri catches up to Fuyuhi, drawn by the sound of her song, Fuyuhi is already a ghost. She appears to be in a trance, singing the Song of Memories as she lifts the knife and slits her own throat. During the battle, you can hear her singing the same song. Yuri is able to defeat her and Glances her memories.
Later, Haruka is lured to the place where she died by the sound of her song, and that night, Fuyuhi follows her back to the shop to lead her back to the mountain. After that, Fuyuhi and Haruka's spirits return to the shop multiple times; it is Fuyuhi who spirits Yuri away at the end of the Eighth Drop.
Eventually, it seems Fuyuhi and Haruka are reunited, as their silhouettes can be seen standing together in the Shadowspring in either of Miu's endings.
