Immortal Flower (永久花, tokoshiebana) is a term that appears in Fatal Frame V. It refers to shrine maidens who are sunk beneath the water of the Shadowspring, becoming human pillars. Kept inside their reliquary with black water, they gradually grow nearer to death, their bodies slowly being eroded and melted by the water, but as long as the maiden retains her sense of self she will retain her form. During this time, she will not age, said to be forever in the rift between life and death. The name comes from the wish for the maidens to retain their beautiful forms forever in the dark water, like an eternally blooming flower.
Misc. Info
- Tokoshiebana is the Japanese name for plants in the genus Helichrysum. They are similarly called "everlasting" in English and "immortelle" in French, because the small, bright yellow flowers retain their colour for a long time after they are dried.
