Mission Mode
Mission Mode is an extra mode that is unlocked after completing the game for the first time on any difficulty. All Fatal Frames except Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water feature a mission mode.
Fatal Frame
Called 'Battle Mode' in the first game. The mode features 20 missions, in which the player has to fight 15 different ghosts, with the last mission being against Kirie. 9 of the first 10 missions are single missions, while most of the last 10 are against 2 ghosts at the same time. The player is given a limited amount of film with which to fight the ghosts. Rankings are given at the end of each mission, dependent on the highest amount of points gained with a single shot, with D being the lowest and S the highest. A bonus in points is also given at the end of each mission, depending on the highest shot and completion time.
Completing Battle Mode unlocks the "Sense" special function and Nightmare difficulty in the PS2 version (in the Xbox version Nightmare mode is unlocked as soon as you beat the game). Completing all missions with an S ranking unlocks the "Chase" special function.

Fatal Frame II
Fatal Frame II features 25 missions, the last of which is against both Sae and the Kusabi in the Hellish Abyss. Completing all missions earns the Type G (PS2) or K (Xbox) costume, along with Mayu's glasses accessory, and completing all missions with at least an S rank earns the Type E and F (PS2 and Xbox) costumes.
Fatal Frame III
Fatal Frame III has 10 pages of missions, with each of the main characters fighting different ghosts. The final three missions involve Miku, Kei and Rei in turn fighting their way through multiple ghosts in the Last Passage and Abyss, and in the final mission, Rei's, the player must also defeat the Tattooed Priestess.
The reward for completing mission mode is a new costume for both Rei and Miku (the Pinafore Dress), along with "Serial". Completing all missions with an S rank earns the "Festival" function. You can also take a picture of Amane on mission 2-3 for the Spirit List.
Fatal Frame IV
There are 10 pages of missions in Fatal Frame IV, with all characters having their own missions. Most of the missions have a predetermined time limit, in which the mission must be completed. Unlike previous games, if all of the film is used up the camera will automatically use the unlimited Type 07 film for the remainder of the mission. Completing a mission successfully earns the player points and stones with which to upgrade the camera and lenses; either blue or red crystals, or even both. Completing all missions unlocks a new costume each for Madoka, Ruka and Misaki, and also unlocks the Character Gallery. Earning an S rank or above on every mission unlocks the "None" function (装備機能・無).
