Shadowspring

The Shadowspring (黒キ澤, black lake) is a term and location that appears in Fatal Frame V. It is a huge spring of black water that comes from the underworld itself, acting as the gateway to the Netherworld. The Dark Sun shines constantly down upon it, illuminating the surface with the red glow of a setting sun. The lake is reachable via the Shrine on the Water. When they were ready, shrine maidens would be sent to the shrine by boat in order to be sunk beneath the waters of the Shadowspring. The final fight with Ose Kurosawa takes place here, one part beneath the water and another atop it.

• The appearance of the Shadowspring was inspired by a real place in Japan: Hashigui-iwa in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture.
