[[Image:Children Playing Tag.jpg|200px|left]] Onigokko (鬼ごっこ) is the Japanese game equivalent of 'tag'. There is no limit to the number or age of players. The person 'it' (referred to as the [[Oni]] aka demon) tries to catch or tag everyone else. After a specific time limit (for example, counting to 10), the Oni then goes after the players. The only real rule is to avoid the Oni and keep from being tagged. The game ends when time is up or the Oni gives up.

A slight variation in play is that as the Oni tags other players, they in turn also become 'Oni' and also become 'it' searching for the other players. The game ends when all the players are caught. However, the first player 'caught' by the Oni becomes the new 'Oni'. This is ironically similar to the rules of the [[Demon Tag Ritual]] of [[Fatal Frame]] in which the [[Blinded Maiden]] captures the first child who will become the next blinded.

==Hidden Onigokko==
A variation of this game is Hidden Onigokko (隠れ鬼ごっこ) is a variation of the game which includes tag and hide & seek. This variation is almost exactly like the game of [[Demon Tag]] played by [[Mikoto]] and her friends in [[Fatal Frame]] and by [[Minakami Village]] Children in [[Fatal Frame II]].

In Hidden Onigokko, a hide and seek element is added to the game, where players initially 'hide' from the Oni and then run away if the Oni discovers their locaton.

==Other Variations of game==
* Koori Oni - Same rules as Freeze tag, players 'caught' stay in place until game ends or one of the non-caught players 'tag' and free them.
*Shippo-tori - Everyone is an oni. Players wear a handkerchief and the object is to keep yours while taking away everyone elses. The winner is the last person left with their handkerchief.
