Ren learns of the true purpose of the rituals performed on Mt. Hikami.
The mountain acts as a bridge between our world and the world of the dead. A place at which the souls of visitors are returned to the water from which they were born.
Shrine maidens absorbed the memories of the dying, and when they could take no more, they were sacrificed.
Ghost Marriages served to strengthen the souls of those sacrificed.
They were sunk deep into that spring of darkness that leads to the Netherworld.
The water is everything.

日上山で行われていた儀式の
本当の意味を知った蓮。
生に執着をなくした人々が訪れる日上山。
そこは現世（うつしよ）と隠世（かくりよ）
別つ場所だった。
山を訪れた人々はここで生を終える。
その生を、水へと帰す巫女たち。
巫女は儀式を重ねるごとに、
人々の「最後の想い」を看取っていく。
そして、最後には彼女達自身が
人柱となって「匪」へと入れられる。
幽婚とは人柱となった巫女の魂を慰め、
契りを交わした二人を同じ「柩籠」に
収める儀式。
巫女たちは隠世へと繋がる泉に
沈められる。
全ては、水でつながっている。
