A long time ago in Japan, when large structures such as bridges or castles were built, young maidens were buried alive under the foundations or in the walls as offerings to the gods.
These human sacrifices were believed to make the buildings stronger and protect them from destruction, as the maidens would forever watch over them. They were called "Pillars," and would support the spells and wards that kept evil forces out of our world.
