The cable car was introduced in the hopes it would increase the number of tourists. There are three stops on the line: Mikomori, the Unfathomable Forest, and the Shrine of the Ephemeral. Soon after it was opened a huge landslide hit, and it had to be shut down.

The tourists stopped coming, and the line never reopened. Some claim the construction work, which involved leveling part of the mountain and cutting a route through the forest, desecrated the sacred ground and brought a curse upon the line.

Nowadays fans of the occult, attracted by rumors of ghosts seen in the empty carriages, or eerie silhouettes of people glimpsed in the forest by the rail track, come to take photos of the abandoned train.

日上山ケーブルカー

日上山を観光地として再興する際に、
観光客の利便性を考えて敷設された。

水籠前・不知ノ森前・幽ノ宮前の三駅
があり、多くの参拝客を運ぶはずだったが、
開通後間もなく大きな地滑りが起き、
長期間の運体を強いられた。


復旧するも参拝客は減り、そのまま
廃線となった。

路線の一部は山の表面を削り、不知ノ森
の一部を切り開くなどして敷設されたため、
トンネル工事とあわせて「祟り」の噂は絶え
なかった。


また、無人車両に人影を見た、線路脇の
森林に多くの人が立っているのを見た、
などの噂が流れ、廃線になった今も
心霊スポットとして写真を撮りに
訪れる者もいる。
