Shadows of the past, seen when shadow reading. Through contact with a token of the lost person or object, a person possessing psychic abilities can sense its trace, showing them where to go.
People with particularly strong abilities will see the form of their quarry, and not just a shadow.
The traces will attract malevolent ghosts, so it is dangerous to spend too long gazing at them. Yet another risk lies in following the trace of a person who has already died or has been spirited away, as you may be inadvertently following them into the world of the dead.

残影（ざんえい）
「影見」の力で見ることができる過去の影。
「寄香」の対象となる者の残留思念が像
を結んだもので、その人の過去の姿を影の
ように映し出すことから、こう呼ばれる。
影見の力が強い者は、影ではなく人の姿
そのものが見えることもあるという。
強い残影は近くにいる霊的な者、隠世の
者を引き寄せるため、同じ残影を見続ける
ことは危険なこととされる。
また、死者や行方不明者の影を追うと、
見る者も同じ道を辿り、隠世に引き込まれ
てしまうと言われている。
