Twin Deity Statues (Twin Guardian Statues in Deep Crimson Butterfly) appear in Fatal Frame II, scattered throughout Minakami Village. A new one was erected whenever a set of twins performed the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual successfully. One of the twins depicted on the statue is always missing a head, a reference to the younger twin that is strangled during the ritual. After the Repentance, all that remained of the village was a statue in the middle of the forest. Anyone who passed it became trapped within the village. In the game's opening cutscene, the moment Mio passes the Twin Deity Statue hidden at the foot of a tree is the moment she enters the village's endless night.

The folklorist Seijiro Makabe writes about the statues in his notes about village customs. Later, Masumi Makimura, a land surveyor trapped in the village, takes note of them as he looks for a way to escape.

The keys that open the door to Whisper Bridge and Kurosawa House are hidden inside two Twin Deities statues.
