Two girls are seen walking through a forest, having travelled to the area to play there one last time before returning to Tokyo. Mayu slips and Mio helps her to sit down, and a Crimson Butterfly flutters by the two as Mio fixes Mayu's leg bandage. Mayu apologizes to Mio, saying that it was her fault for slipping, which caused them to lose the path and become lost. Mio tells her that it is her job to protect Mayu, and it's not Mayu's fault that they are lost. While Mio is looking away, Mayu sees a woman in a white kimono standing before her, saying that "everyone is dead" before disappearing. Mio does not see the ghost, and returns to inform her sister that she has seen a house in the distance. As the two leave, the woman is seen before disappearing once more. As the girls enter the old house, another butterfly flutters behind them. At the entrance, the two are handed a torch by a strange man, who then tells them to follow him inside before vanishing. Inside a room the twins find an old camera, which Mio holds up and looks at Mayu through. Hovering behind Mayu is the man who greeted them; however, when Mio lowers the camera the man is nowhere to be seen. The girls hear a voice whisper "Hey!", before flashes of ghosts, including a pair of twins, appear. The girls walk past the man to leave, who is now sitting facing the wall, and as they pass him he disappears. Another flash follows, and are cornered by spirits as they try to leave the house. Mio takes a shot of the ghosts using her camera and they vanish, the lights regaining power. A woman in a red kimono clings onto Mayu, who flinches, but Mio cannot see her. The woman grabs Mayu by the throat and Mio eventually pulls her twin back to her. Mayu begins to mumble as Mio walks out of the door. The door closes behind her, trapping Mayu inside. As Mio turns to leave, a man in a blue kimono and a woman in a white kimono appear in front of her and embrace, before walking inside.

Downpour ~Scarlet Butterfly~ (often called Lusty Brown Butterfly in English-speaking fandom) is a pornographic parody of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. Although the basic scenario is the same, the plot is far simpler and has a clear sexual purpose. The movie was not endorsed nor created by Tecmo or the game creators and is in no way considered canon to the Fatal Frame Series.

Plot

Twin sisters Mio and Mayu are walking through a forest at night. Mayu, the elder, has an injured leg and has to sit down on a log to rest. She apologises to Mio for slipping, which is the reason they lost the path, but Mio comforts her and says she's sure they'll find their way home. A moment later, Mio sees a girl in white standing a little way off in the forest. The girl looks just like Mayu, and calls Mio "Saya". Strange images flash through Mio's head; when she looks up, Mayu is wandering away into the woods as if in a trance.

Mio runs after her, and they end up at an old house. The girl in white greets Mio and leads her inside. Mio finds Mayu asleep in one of the inner rooms, but when she tries to wake her, Mayu seems dazed. She also calls Mio "Saya", and talks about performing a ritual.

As they search for a way out, Mio finds an old camera that seems to be able to capture things that are invisible to the naked eye. She takes it with her, but she and Mayu become trapped in an upstairs room where a group of men with their faces hidden sit in a circle. Mayu pulls away from Mio and steps into the circle, and a mysterious force prevents Mio from following. Mayu turns into the girl in the white kimono, and the men begin to ritually abuse her as Mio watches helplessly. When it is over, the men begin to surround Mio. She takes a picture of them with the camera, but when they disappear, so does Mayu.

Mio searches the house for a way to help Mayu, but stops to watch a flashback of Saya having sex with a man in a blue kimono. A disconsolate Mayu wonders if Mio has left her behind. As she sinks into despair, she sees a memory of the girl in white - Sana - in which the head priest tells her that Saya is gone. Sana offers herself instead, and the head priest performs the ritual with her. When Mio finally arrives at the room where Mayu was trapped, she finds it empty.

She sees a flashback of Saya and Sana. Saya confesses she is afraid to do the ritual, and Sana comforts her. Mio realises that Saya and Sana were meant to perform the ritual together, but Sana was left to endure it alone, which her despair became a curse on the old mansion. Mio heads to the ritual site, where Mayu/Sana is waiting, and the head priest and villagers perform the ritual with both of them. When it is over, Mio and Mayu share a kiss, and the room fills with crimson butterflies.

They wake in an empty room, sitting back to back. Relieved to find each other safe, they embrace, and head out into the daylight.
