It seems to be taboo.
Perhaps Shigeto Haibara revived the mask and used its strong effects in an attempt to cure Getsuyuu Syndrome?

A mask is hung up at the area where people arrive on the island.
Masks seem to have some kind of importance to the people of this island.
The masks worn by shrine maidens appear to be of particular importance.
In the Kagura they wear masks and enter a trance as they dance to the music, but the beautiful masks are said to lead them to the right mental state.
The mask-makers are revered, as though a group with high status attending to nobility would be.
The masks this island uses are unique in that, unlike any other masks used in Kaguras, they represent the dead.
