This island is as remote and dreary as ever.
I've been back for a few days.
The time passes quietly, uneventfully.
I couldn't help going to see my sister just once, before the Rite of Descent.
...I hear the nurse yelling from the next room again. A girl is crying. It sounds like Ayako is causing more trouble.
Father says Ayako is always taking her pranks too far, just like me. How amusing.
Ayako knows how to have fun. That's important if you want to live a decent life on this wretched little island.
...Still, the boredom gets unbearable.
Now I feel nostalgic about the game of tag I played with that guy. But he's not stupid. He'll find his way to this island eventually.

島に戻って数日。
何事も無く、安穏と時間だけが過ぎていく。
帰来迎の前に一度、
姉さんに会っておきたかったが
止むを得ないか。
…また部屋の向こうから
看護婦の怒鳴り声が聞こえる。
女の子が一人泣いている。
亞夜子がまた何かしでかしたみたいだ。
親父の話では、
亞夜子の奴は俺に似たのか
悪戯が過ぎるらしい。
面白い。
亞夜子は楽しみ方を知っている。
くだらない島で
まともに生きていくには重要な事だ。
…それにしても退屈が過ぎる。
今となっては、
あの男との鬼ごっこが懐かしく思える。
もっとも、奴も馬鹿じゃない。
いずれこの島へ辿り着くだろう。
