A valley near the summit of Mt. Hikami which houses an ancient cemetery. It had been left undisturbed until land developers decided to create a path to the summit for the tourists. The only way was through the Forbidden Valley. A massive landslide flooded the valley, destroying the path.

The graves were once exhumed in an attempt to establish who was buried there but no bodies were found. It is thought that the graves were erected in memory of people who did not have remains. Another theory is that the graves were for the shrine maidens who were sacrificed to the mountain.

忌谷（いみだに）

山頂付近の窪地に作られた古い墓地。

無数にある墓石には文字などは一切
刻まれておらず、長年無縁仏として放置
されていたが、山頂の大禍境へは墓地を
通るしかなく、整備が行われた。
しかし、その後の地滑りにより窪地に水が
流入し、墓地全体が水没している。


墓地に葬られた人々に関しての調査も
行われたが、墓の下からは遺骨などが
見つからなかったことから、何らかの理由
で遺体を遺せない人々への弔意を示す
ための墓地であるとされた。

日上山信仰が行われていた時期のもの
であるため、命を落とした巫女や、儀式の
生贄、人柱であるなど様々な説が現在
も囁かれている。
