He also writes cheap pulp fiction under a pen name in between projects. He acts on intuition, and has a laissez-faire attitude.
He asked Hisoka to find Postmortem Photographs for a new book he's writing. Hisoka has helped him before to find other reference materials, such as old curios and books.
Ren has been haunted by the memory of killing a girl in some kind of ceremony, and by dreams of the girl looking back at him.
For this reason, he's always felt uneasy around women, especially when they look him in the eye.

作家。取材を元にフィクションを構成
する作風で一部に知られている。
その作風から執筆に時間が掛かることが
多く、その間には名前を変えて「何でも」
執筆する。
直感で行動する、大雑把な性格だが、
気も腕も強いほうではない。
次回作の題材として「弔写真」を取り
入れるため、密花に影見を依頼した。
密花とは資料を探している時に知り
合い、以後、資料の骨董や古本の
調達など、調べごとを依頼している。
「幼い頃、祭りのさなかに少女を殺した」
という記憶があり、「殺す間際に少女に
見られた」という夢に苛まれている。
そのため女性が苦手で、見つめられると
少し挙動不審になる。

A relative of Dr. Aso. Amongst the Postmortem Photographs he asked Hisoka to find is a photo of Ose Kurosawa.
The photo awakens within Ren the feelings Dr. Aso had for Ose, and so he gets involved in the events taking place on Mt. Hikami.
As a boy, Ren found a bundle of white hair in his family's storeroom. Upon touching it, he glanced Dr. Aso's memory of killing a young girl.
Tracing Dr. Aso's footsteps to Mt. Hikami, he gets involved in a Ghost Marriage and must choose between two brides.
放生 蓮（ほうじょう れん）
麻生博士の子孫。
「弔写真」を題材に作品を書くため、
密花に影見を依頼し、「黒澤逢世」
の弔写真を手に入れる。
その写真を見て、麻生博士が持っていた
黒澤逢世への想いに憑かれてしまい、
日上山の儀式へと関わることになった。
幼い頃、実家の蔵で見つけた
「白い髪の毛の束」に触れたことで、
「祭りのさなかに少女を殺した」という
麻生博士の記憶を引き受けていた。
射影機を手に麻生博士の記憶を追う
うちに、麻生博士のかわりとなって幽婚を
遂げるために日上山に再び登り、結ノ家で
契る相手の選択を迫られることになった。
