Ose Kurosawa is the main antagonist in Fatal Frame V. She was a Maiden of Black Water on Mount Hikami, but her ritual went wrong and she became a hostile spirit.
Background
Originally from a small village on the other side of Katase, at the base of Mount Hikami, she was the sole survivor of a flood that killed many people, and the incident left her with the ability to see things others couldn't, forcing her to take a position as a shrine maiden on the mountain. When her time came to enter the casket and become an Immortal Flower, it was decided that she would serve as a Great Pillar, supporting the mountain and preventing black water from overflowing from the Shadowspring. This was such a coveted honour that the other shrine maidens were in tears when she was chosen. The name Kurosawa (meaning "black swamp") was not her birth name, but one conferred as a sign of recognition when she was chosen for the role.
In preparation for her future Ghost Marriage, the residents of the mountain invited Kunihiko Asou, then a young man, to visit and take a photograph, which they thought might reflect the shrine maiden's soul more clearly than the traditional painting. Ose and Kunihiko were together only for a brief time as he took her picture, but fell in love instantly. He took her photograph with him and treasured it, as a memento and piece of her soul. Ose was troubled by her feelings, because rather than die and be joined in Ghost Marriage, she found herself wishing to live with him. She remained silent, and so the feelings between them remained unspoken and powerful.
Ose went on to perform her ritual, entering the casket willingly. Once the lid was closed, however, she was flooded with the feelings of all of the shrine maidens being massacred at that very moment by Kyozo Kururugi. Her memories of Kunihiko Asou only caused her more pain, and her ritual failed, black water spilling from inside her box. Her spirit was tainted, and she turned into an evil ghost, forever waiting for someone to die with her, or accept her memories so she could be at rest.
Fatal Frame V
During the events of Fatal Frame V, Ose's attention is caught by Ren Hojo, who carries a part of Dr. Asou's soul, and Yuri Kozukata, whom she perceives as a kindred spirit. Ren is captivated by Ose's photograph and is beckoned to the House of Joining to choose a bride. If he chooses Ose, he can either take a picture of her, leading her to return to the darkness alone, or touch her, in which case she and Asou will have a chance to confess their feelings at last. In both endings, Ren is allowed to leave unharmed.
Meanwhile, Yuri, obsessed with death, glances more and more memories as she explores the mountain, fulfilling the traditional role of the shrine maidens. Wishing for somebody to accept her pain, Ose calls Yuri to the Shadowspring so that they can sink into the black water together.
In both endings of the game, Yuri glances Ose's soul, consoling her to some degree. In the Embrace Ending, Ose recognises Yuri's sorrow and loneliness as a likeness of her own, and asks Yuri to die with her so that they can be together in the darkness. In the Bride from Black Water Ending, with Yuri's acceptance, Ose comes to terms with her unfulfilled love and returns to her casket, taking the black water with her and purifying the whole mountain.

Voice Lens Quote
- "I thought I found you, but are lost... I thought you could take it, but you fell. You can fight it with all your strength, but the current will overwhelm you and sweep you away. You... she's coming... I know it... Will you end yourself with me?"

- "If only I could turn into water... flow away, like a stream... And one day, be joined with the ocean..."

Battle Quotes
Above water:
- "At last, you finally came... I've been waiting... Your soul is... is already gone... Everyone's pain... and all their thoughts... are flowing into me... Melting... Filling me... Please... No more pain... Overflowing... the Black Water is overflowing... with the dying thoughts of those who have long since passed... I shall take your final thoughts... your feelings... with me... but what of my own thoughts? Who will receive them from me? Is there anyone left... (glance into my soul...) to feel what I feel?"

Underwater:
- "At last, you finally came... Quickly... I'm falling... alone... I'm all alone... Sinking... I'm falling alone... farther and farther and farther... If I were to disappear... then the other Pillars... would vanish... Everything would vanish... Before the Black Water overflows... Quickly... Before I completely vanish... It's too late... Disappearing..."

Misc. Info
- Shortly after the game's release, various fandom sources gave her name as "Oose" (オオセ), the more common spelling of 逢世, but the official spelling, per the title card for Chapter 7, is "Ouse" (オウセ). This was simplified to "Ose" in the Western release.
- During the first two phases of the final battle, Ose's glance opportunity is very brief, meaning most players will have to fight at least three rounds with her. The opportunity becomes longer after she has reached 0 health twice, making it easier to Glance her and end the battle. Some players have considered this a glitch, but it appears to be a deliberate choice, extending the final battle and ensuring that most players will see both phases of the fight.
