A shrine built on the Lake of the Departed. It appears as if it is floating on the water's surface. The lake feeds all the springs on the mountain, and the shrine is believed to give its blessing to the water.
The large torii gate which marks the shrine entrance can be seen from the shore on days when the mist is thin. The main building was destroyed a long time ago and nothing of it now remains. There is supposed to be a spring under the shrine, but its precise location is unknown.

水上ノ宮（みなかみのみや）
日上山の山頂にある彼岸湖に浮かぶように
立てられた社。
水の流れの源にあり、日上山を廻る水を
守っていると言われている。
入り口にある巨大な鳥居は、霧の薄い日に
彼岸湖からも見ることができるが、
本殿は災害で流されたといわれ、
現存はしていない。
建物の下には水が湧き出す場所が
あるとされているが、文献にわずかに記録が
残されるくらいで、建物の構造を含め、
詳細は不明である。
