In his writings, a folklorist by the name of Ryozo Munakata describes the event as a "Repentance".
The people of the village had held peculiar religious beliefs since ancient times, and a festival rooted in these beliefs used to be practiced there.
The Repentance is a disaster linked to this festival, and is said to have been responsible for the village vanishing into thin air.
Mr. Munakata, who actually investigated the "secret festival" held in the village himself, seems to have left behind several other documents discussing the festival and the Repentance.
