In a document left by a folklorist named Ryozo Munakata, the event is described as a "Repentance".
The village has long held peculiar religious beliefs, and their festivals reflect these beliefs.
The "Repentance" refers to the disaster associated with the festival, and it was because of this "Repentance" that the village disappeared without a trace.
Mr. Munakata, who actually investigated the "secret festival" held in the village, left behind several other documents about the festival and the Repentance.
