The five Buddha statues were used to open the altar in Narukami Shrine to obtain the first piece of the Holy Mirror. Junsei Takamine had already gathered four of the five Buddha statues before Miku arrived at the mansion, leaving her only the last to find at the base of the Shinto Gate at the top of the path leading to the shrine. Four of the statues had damaged limbs, while the fifth had a missing head. When placed in the corresponding holes in the altar, matching each damaged limb to its location on the grid, the altar would open and reveal the mirror piece.
