History

According to the Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake digital deluxe art book, herbal medicine is manufactured by a long-established company in Toyama called Kagomorido, and their seal can be seen in the design, stamped in red on the side of the container.

A small insert included with the KTSpot Herbal Medicine and Tin Badge merchandise describes the origins and proper use of herbal medicine (translation by FF Translations).

Kagomorido Manyogan (Herbal Medicine)

Supposedly, these events occurred in August of Genbun 2 (1737).

Illness had spread through the village in which Zenbei Kagomori resided, claiming the lives of many villagers. As Zenbei lay sick in bed, his wife, who had been taken by illness days earlier, came to stand at his bedside and said to him, "Mix together poisonous plants from the village and employ a variety of methods to make from them medicine," then vanished.

Upon making the medicine as he had been instructed and taking it, it is said that Zenbei was cured at once. Naming it "Manyogan" (万妖丸), inspired by the saying "defeat poison with poison", he distributed it to the other villagers, who were tremendously grateful.

This is the origin of Kagomorido.

Yakuro, third in the line of craftsmen, made the medicine more palatable by adding sweetness to its characteristic flavour, renaming it "Manyogan" (万葉丸) with the hope that, like the strong, placid poetic style of the Manyoshu, it would cultivate a robust mind and body.

Becoming known as a wonder drug that, aside from its cardiotonic and fatigue relieving properties, is also effective against possession by malevolent spirits, Manyogan was disseminated throughout the country by medicine pedlars. As the medicine's effects are powerful, please use sparingly and appropriately.
