The earthquake the other day destroyed all five mirrors (the Holy Mirrors) which were
artifacts kept for centuries in the five shrines. These mirrors represent the five gods' protection over this region.
Most commonly known for the "Five Gods Festival" held every 10 years, when all five mirrors gather in one shrine. The priests of the shrine hope that this isn't a bad omen.

先日の地震より、県下の山地にある
五つの神社に伝わる鏡（御神鏡）が全て
壊れる、という事件があった。
この鏡は、古くから「土地の災厄を封
じる」と言い伝えられており、１０年に
一度、五枚の鏡を一つの神社に集めて開
かれる「五神祭」で有名。
不思議な現象について、神社の神主た
ちは「不吉なことの前兆でなければいい
のだが」と口をそろえている。
