Mio's Memo: The Old Tree
Obtained: Final Chapter, after solving the puzzle in the Old Tree.
Replaces: Twin Shrine

The Old Tree Site was created in the cavern of a huge rotting tree to enshrine The Remainings when they died. There, pinwheels were given as offerings to comfort The Remainings' spirits. A passageway ran beneath the Old Tree Site, and wind from below turned the pinwheels.

Twins once tried to escape through this old passageway, but were ambushed and killed. The angry ceremony master created a seal in the Old Tree Site over the old passageway so that no other twins could escape. The seal's pinwheel keys were given to four priests, and handed down in their families.

Mio's Notes: The Decayed Tree
Obtained: Final Chapter, after solving the puzzle in the Decayed Tree.
Replaces: MM:Twin Shrine

The Remaining are laid to rest in a special burial site among the roots of the vast decayed tree.

To ease those troubled souls who lost their twin, the area is decorated with countless pinwheels.

An ancient subterranean passage leads out of the village from beneath the decayed tree. The pinwheels turn with the faint breeze that plays through this passage.

Once, twins tried to escape through this passage, but were caught and killed by villagers who lay in wait by its entrance.

The High Priest was furious and ordered the passage to be sealed so that no one else would ever try to escape. The four family crests used to open the seal were left in the safekeeping of the priests that came from each family.

Info - World: The Old Tree

Within the Old Tree of Minakami Village are enshrined the bodies of the Remaining. Pinwheels are placed all around to appease the souls of those who had lost their other halves. A path runs deep under the Old Tree leading to the outside world, and the faint breeze that turns the pinwheels is said to blow up from there. Long ago, twins who tried to flee the village via this deep path were killed by villagers waiting in ambush. The enraged High Priest sealed this path at the Old Tree itself to prevent further escape attempts. The pinwheel keys to open the seal were entrusted to four priests, to be passed down to their descendants in turn.
