MM:Kusabi
Fatal Frame II
Mio's Memo: Kusabi
Obtained: Final Chapter, after entering the Rope Temple
Replaces: Folklorist
All God's Village's custom was to use outsiders as human sacrifices, or "Kusabi", to temporarily appease the Hellish Abyss. The villagers told Makabe they would show him the Hellish Abyss, but they captured him and locked him up instead. Before using the key from Yae and Sae, he was sacrificed. The village believed the more pain a Kusabi was subjected to before being sacrificed, the more effective it would be. After many painful rituals, Makabe was thrown into the Hellish Abyss. But, along with Sae, he appeared as a Kusabi on the day of The Repentance and slaughtered the villagers. Makabe gave Yae and Sae a note for his assistant Ryozo, telling him to get out of the village. Wondering why, Ryozo did so, but came back on the day of the ceremony to fulfil his promise with Itsuki. When he arrived, the village was gone and all he could find was a girl standing motionless.
Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly
Mio's Notes: The Kusabi

A tradition developed in Minakami Village whereby an outsider was sacrificed as what was known as a Kusabi, in order to temporarily appease the Abyss.
Told that he was to be taken to see the Abyss, Makabe was lured to the Kurosawa House, where he was imprisoned. Before he had a chance to use the key he had been given by Sae and Yae, the ritual began.
At the Shadow Ritual, a living victim is cut, turning him into the Kusabi. The more pain that is inflicted on the victim, the more powerful their ability to appease the Abyss.
Cruelly cut and suspended from ropes, at the end of the agony, the victim is cast into the Abyss.
On the day of the Repentance, Makabe, in the form of the Kusabi, emerged from the Abyss along with Sae. Wishing to inflict the same pain he had suffered on others, he slaughtered the villagers.
Makabe managed to pass a note to Yae and Sae, who gave it to his assistant, Munakata. It said: 'You must leave this place.' With a heavy heart, Munakata obeyed.
Keeping a vow he had made to Itsuki, he returned to the village on the day of the Crimson Sacrifice Festival, but found that it had vanished and only Yae survived.
