The Twin Maidens

Twin girls are offered as sacrifices during the Crimson Sacrifice Festival.
Twin boys are also used on occasion, in which case they are known as twin wardens.
It would appear that, according to the local belief system, twins were all originally one person, split into two at birth.

It seems the Crimson Sacrifice Festival is based on the belief that: 'Maidens are one being separated into two. When they are rejoined together, they are granted the power of a god'. An ancient text goes on to note that: 'the elder sister must ✻✻ the younger, and cast her into the ✻'.

The ✻✻ must refer to something too terrible to mention directly.
And yet the word 'Sacrifice' leaves little to the imagination...

双子巫女


紅贄祭において、贄として捧げられる
双子の巫女。

時として男の双子で行われる場合もある。

その場合は双子神子と記される。

この地方では、双子とは元々一人であった
ものが、分かれてうまれてきたと信じられて
いるようだ。


紅贄祭とは、

「二つに分かれた体が一つに合わさる時
　その巫女は神の子としての力が生じる」

とい言い伝えをもとにしたものらしく、

「姉が妹を✕✕し、✕へなげ入れる」

と記されている。


✕✕の部分は、恐らく文面に書き残すことを
忌むような儀式なのであろう。

「贄」という文字がその内容を表している。
