Mio's Memo: Hidden Ceremony
Obtained: Final Chapter, after entering the Rope Temple

People sacrificed to calm the Hellish Abyss's rumblings temporarily until the next Crimson Sacrifice Ritual are called "Kusabi". The ceremony for sacrificing a Kusabi was the "Hidden Ceremony". Village outsiders were subjected to the Cutting Ritual then made into Kusabi.

It was believed that the more pain the Kusabi was subjected to before sacrificed, the more effective it would be in appeasing the Hellish Abyss.

The very first Kusabi, a ceremony master, performed the Cutting Ritual on himself, slashing and cutting his own body.

Ever since then, the Cutting Ritual was part of the Kusabi tradition. Legend had it the villagers captured visitors to the village and forced them to be human sacrifices. This practice was probably the origin of the rumor the people who went near All God's Village got "spirited away".

Mio's Notes: The Shadow Ritual
Obtained: Final Chapter, after entering the Rope Temple

When the Abyss begins to grow restless in the interval between Crimson Sacrifice Festivals, a form of human sacrifice is used to appease it. The victim is known as the Kusabi.

The Kusabi is prepared by means of the Shadow Ritual. An outsider who has come to the village is treated with the utmost hospitality, before being subjected to the torment of being ritually cut.

The belief is that the greater the agony inflicted on the Kusabi, the greater his power to calm the Abyss.

The first Kusabi was the High Priest of the village, who, suffering unendurable torment, inflicted the ritual cutting on himself.

This was the origin of the Shadow Ritual, where cutting the victim turned them into the Kusabi. Those used in the ritual were outsiders who were captured when they entered the village.

This is how rumours of people mysteriously vanishing in the vicinity of Minakami Village began...
