Mio's Memo: The Hellish Abyss
Obtained: Chapter 4, after reading Folklorist's Note 9.

The enormous pit at the site where the Forbidden Ritual was performed was called "the Hellish Abyss".
The villagers believed it was the entrance to hell, and threw the Crimson Sacrifices into it to appease the darkness and keep it from spilling out and covering the village.
In All God's Village, it was forbidden to approach this site or even speak its name.
In books, the name of this forbidden place was only written as "the ✻".
Anyone who looked into the Hellish Abyss' darkness would die in madness.
Those who performed the Hellish Abyss's rituals were called "The Mourners".
Their eyes were sewn shut so they couldn't see. Anyone who tried to look into the Hellish Abyss was also called "The Mourners", and had their eyes sewn shut, too.

The vast rift in the earth where the Hidden Ceremony takes place is known as the Abyss.
It is believed to be the gate to hell, and it is said that if it is not appeased by casting sacrifices into it, the darkness within it will break loose and cover the village.
In Minakami Village, it is strictly forbidden to approach this place, or even to utter its name.
Writings on this forbidden place refer to it only with an ✻.
It is said that those who gaze into the Abyss will be driven to despair and die.
Those who oversee the ceremony are ranged around the edge of the Abyss, and are known as the Mourners. Their eyes are sewn shut so that they may not see what lies within that terrible chasm.
Those who disobey the strictures forbidding them to look into the Abyss are punished by having their eyes sewn shut and being forced to join the ranks of the Mourners.
虚
「秘祭」が行われる場所にある巨大な穴は、
「虚」（うつろ）と呼ばれている。
それは、黄泉の世界への入り口であると
されており、紅贄を虚に入れることで
その闇を鎮めなければ、虚の中の闇が
吹き出し、村は闇に覆われるという。
皆神村では、その場所に近づく事はもちろ
ん、その名を口にすることすら禁じられて
いる。
あらゆる書ですらXと記される、文字通り
「禁断」の地である。
虚の中の闇を覗いたものは狂死するといわ
れている。
虚の周りで儀式を執り行う人々は忌人（いみ
びと）と呼ばれ、何も見ないように目を縫わ
れている。
また、禁を破って虚を覗こうとした人間も、
目を縫われて忌人とされてしまうという。
