Story
「日上山」はかつて霊場として崇められその周辺には特殊な信仰が伝えられていた。この山では、「水」を御神体とし、「人は水から生まれ、水へ還る」という、輪廻の教えがあった。その為、この山には「死を迎える者」が訪れ、この山の水に触れて最期を迎えることで、正しく命を終えることができると信じられていた。また、特異な儀式や風習が残っているとされ、陰惨な事件や不思議な出来事があった事も多数報告されている。物語は、霊山と呼ばれる「日上山」を舞台に不来方 夕莉（こずかた ゆうり）、放生 蓮（ほうじょう れん）、雛咲 深羽（ひなさき みう）の３人によって織り成される怪異幻想譚である。

彼岸湖 （ひがんこ）
A reference to Higan
日上山の山頂、大禍境にあるカルデラ湖。白い砂に覆われた美しい砂浜と、一年を通じて霧に包まれる湖面が広がる、神秘的な場所。湖の奥には隠世があり、年に数回、湖面に夕陽が沈む際には霧が晴れ、隠世と現世が繋がるという言い伝えがある。
Higanko / Higan Lake
A caldera lake at the summit of Mt. Hikami. It is a mysterious place with a beautiful white sand beach and a lake whose surface is perpetually shrouded in fog. According to legend, the Netherworld (隠世; kakuriyo) is somewhere deep within the lake. It is said that several times a year, as the sun sets, the fog lifts and the realm of the dead and the realm of the living are connected.
大禍境 (おおまがきょう)
A reference to Ōmagatoki
日上山の山頂にある、火山岩で覆われた一帯。植物は殆どなく、荒涼とした景色が広がっている。その風景は地獄を連想させ、奥にある彼岸湖とあわせて死後の世界、隠世（かくりよ）に近い場所であるとして、名所となっていた。日上山信仰でも神聖な場所とされていたと思われ、儀式などで使われたと考えられる多くの「箱」が積み上げられた「匪塚」や、山の中腹にある形代神社よりも古い人形を祭った「形代奥社」がある。
Omagakyo
An area covered in volcanic rock at the peak of Mt. Hikami. There is little vegetation and the landscape is desolate. It is a scene reminiscent of Hell (地獄; jigoku) and, together with the Lake of the Departed on its far side, has become a landmark famed for being close to the world of the dead, or Netherworld (隠世; kakuriyo). It is believed that this was a sacred place in the religion of Mt. Hikami. There is a "sacrificial mound" where many "boxes" are piled up as if involved a ritual, and a Rear Shrine of Dolls (形代奥社; Katashiro Okusha) containing figures even older than those of the Shrine of Dolls (形代神社; Katashiro Jinja) halfway up the mountain.
幽ノ宮 (かくれのみや)
日上山の頂上付近にある大きな社。日上山信仰の中心地だったと伝えられているが、詳しいことは不明。観光地化されていた時期は入り口が解放され、多くの燈籠が吊るされた拝殿を見物に観光客が訪れていた。ケーブルカーが廃線となった現在では閉鎖され、無人となっている。建物の奥には、日上山信仰を開いた巫女の即身仏が祭られているという言い伝えがあり、霧の深い日、燈籠の火に浮かび上がる濡鴉ノ巫女の姿を見たという者もいるという。
Kakure-no-miya
A large shrine near the summit of Mt. Hikami. It is said to have been the central location of the mountain's religion, but not much is known about it. The entrance was opened when the area was turned into a tourist spot, and tourists visited the worship hall to see the many hanging lanterns. Now that the cable car has been shut down it is closed and abandoned. There are tales that mummies of shrine maidens of the religion are enshrined inside, and on days when the fog is thick, people have claimed to see the Nuregarasu no Miko in the lantern light.
忌谷 (いみだに)
山頂付近の窪地に作られた古い墓地。無数にある墓石には文字などは一切刻まれておらず、地滑りによる墓地水没後は長年無縁仏として放置されていた。その後の調査では遺骨などが見つからなかったことから、何らかの理由で遺体を遺せない人々への弔意を示すための墓地であるとされた。日上山信仰が行われていた時期のものと重なるため、命を落とした巫女や、儀式の生贄、人柱であるなどさまざまな説が現在も囁かれている。
Imidani
An old graveyard near the top of the mountain, created in a basin. The words on the countless gravestones are illegible, and after the flooding caused by the landslide the graveyard was left untended for a long time. Afterwards, remains were found during an investigation, and it became a graveyard for those who, for whatever reason, had no one to leave their bodies to. As it overlaps with the time period when the mountain's religion went on, several theories circulate as rumours that it contains a killed shrine maiden, ritualistic sacrifices, or human pillars.
幽ノ宮前駅 (かくれのみやまええき)
日上山ケーブルカーの終点となる駅。幽ノ宮への参拝や、山頂の大禍境、彼岸湖へ向かう人々が乗り降りする。ケーブルカーの管制室が併設されている。
Kakure-no-miya Station
The final stop on the Mt. Hikami cable car line. It takes people to and from the shrine at Kakure-no-miya, and Omagakyo and Higan Lake at the top of the mountain. The cable car control room is here.
形代神社 (かたしろじんじゃ)
日上山中腹、不知ノ森の中央にある、多くの人形が祭られた古い神社。観光地化に伴い、一時期は「人形供養」を行う神社として改修されたが、参拝客の減少によって、現在は再び無人となっている。子供の霊が遊んでいる、人形から声がする、人形を持った白い髪の少女がじっと見つめていた、などの噂が後を絶たない。
Katashiro Shrine
An old shrine, containing many dolls, deep inside Shirazu Forest in the centre of Mt. Hikami. When it was turned into a tourist spot, for a time it was repaired and used for doll memorial services, but along with a decrease in worshippers it was abandoned. Rumours about it never cease, such as the ghosts of playing children, voices from the dolls, and behind stared at by a white-haired girl holding a doll.
不知ノ森 (しらずのもり)
日上山の中腹にある、平坦な地域に広がる森。日上山が心霊スポット、自殺の名所として有名になってからは、自殺志願者や肝試しをする人などが、フェンスを破り侵入するケースが後を断たない。森に入った者は行方不明になってしまうケースが多いが、中には森に潜む凶悪犯に惨殺された、と噂する者もいる。
Shirazu Forest / The Unknown Forest
A forest that stretches across level land in the middle of Mt. Hikami. Since gaining fame as a ghost and suicide spot, there have been constant cases of people wishing to commit suicide or those on a dare breaking the fence and sneaking inside. Many of those who go into the forest go missing, which some rumour is due to their being cruelly killed by a criminal lurking inside the forest.
不知ノ森前駅 (しらずのもりまええき) 不知ノ森の外れに作られた、日上山ケーブルカーの中継駅。屋根も無く簡素な作り。形代神社への参拝のほか、不知ノ森周辺の自然を散策する人々が乗り降りする。この駅を利用することで、階段や急斜面を上らずに「禊ヶ淵」へ行くこともできる。また、バス停、日上トンネル前との連絡駅でもある。
Shirazu Forest Station
The middle point station on the cable car line, built on the edge of Shirazu Forest. It is simply constructed, with no roof, and takes people who to Katashiro Shrine, or those who wish to take a stroll through nature around the forest. Using this station, you can reach Misogi-ga-fuchi without climbing the steps or a steep slope. It also connects to the bus stop and the Hikami Tunnels station.
巫滝・禊ヶ淵 (かんなぎだき・みそぎがふち)
日上山の旧参道沿いにある、山の名所。水が豊富な日上山の参道には幾つかの滝があり、特に「巫滝」が流れ込む滝壺と、美しい淵がある「禊ヶ淵」は巫女が身を清める特別な場所だったと言われている。現在は、かつてこの場で殺された巫女の死体を見たという噂が絶えず、オカルト系の雑誌などでは「巫女ヶ淵」と呼ばれている。
Kannagidaki / Misogi-ga-fuchi
A famous spot on the mountain, alongside the old shrine path. There are several waterfalls along the shrine path on Mt. Hikami, rich in water, in particular Kannagidaki, which flows into the waterfall basin, and Misogi-ga-fuchi, a beautiful pool, which is said to be a special place where a shrine maiden would purify her body. These days, there are incessant rumours that the body of a murdered shrine maiden was once discovered here, and it is called "Miko-ga-fuchi" in occult magazines, among other places.
日上トンネル (ひかみとんねる)
日上山を観光地として開発する際、山頂の大禍境へと通ずる観光道路を通す予定で作られていたトンネル。工事中、山の内部に広がる「胎内洞窟」に繋がったため、洞窟内部に流れる大量の水がトンネル内へ流れ込み、多数の死者が出た。その後工事は再開されたが、事故や行方不明者が相次いだため、現在は道路自体も封鎖されている。
Hikami Tunnel
This tunnel was scheduled to be built during the time when Mt. Hikami was underground construction to be a tourism site, in order to be a tourist route connecting to Omakagyo at the top of the mountain. During construction, it connected to the caves that spread through a part of the inside of the mountain, causing a massive amount of water to flow into the tunnel and killing many people. Construction began again afterwards, but people kept getting into accidents or going missing, and these days the tunnel is closed off.
水籠前駅 (みこもりまええき)
日上山を訪れる観光客、参拝客の為に敷設された『日上山ケーブルカー』の始発駅。駅近くに駐車場があり、車で訪れた観光客はここでケーブルカーに乗り、山頂へと向かう。水籠池周辺の遊歩道にも通じており、「水籠温泉一縷荘」の宿泊客も利用しやすくなっている。
Mikomori Station
The first station in the Mt. Hikami cable car line, built for tourists visiting the mountain or those who wish to visit the shrine. There is a carpark near the station, so tourists visiting by car can get on the cable car and head up the mountain. It also leads to the promenade around Mikomori Lake, and was convenient for the guests at Mikomori Hot Spring.
水籠温泉 一縷荘 (みこもりおんせん いちるそう)
日上山に古くからある温泉旅館。山全域で起きた大規模な地滑りにより、木造である旧館部分が埋まり、そのまま再建されること無く廃業となった。地滑りで多くの犠牲者が出たことや、家族を亡くした旅館主人が建物内で自殺し、その霊が出るという噂などから、心霊スポットとして有名になっている。
Mikomori Hot Springs
A hot spring inn that has been on Mt. Hikami for a long time. The old part of the building, built with wood, was buried by a huge landslide that occurred all over the mountain, and was never rebuilt, abandoned. The landslide claimed many lives, and also having lost his family, the owner of the inn killed himself inside it, causing rumours that his ghost has been seen there, making it a famous ghost spot.
水籠橋・水籠池 (みこもりばし・みこもりいけ) 日上山から流れ落ちる水を湛える池。山の水は水籠池を通ってさらに麓へと流れていく。その為一年を通して水質は良く、観光地となっていた当時は、周辺の遊歩道や水籠橋を散策する人も多くあった。 参道に続く橋「水籠橋」は山へと入る境界として位置づけられていた。古くは木造だったが、一縷荘の新館建築の際にコンクリート製のものへと架け替えられた。
Mikomori Bridge/Mikomori Pond
A lake that contains the water flowing from the mountain. The water from the mountain flows through Mikomori Lake to the bottom of the mountain. Because of this, the water quality is good year round, and when it was a tourist spot there were many people who took a stroll on the promenade and Mikomori Bridge. Mikomori Bridge, leading to the shrine path, was positioned so as to be the boundary to the mountain. Long ago it was made out of wood, but was replaced with a concrete one when the new building of the hot springs was built.
日上山ケーブルカー (ひかみやまケーブルカー)
観光客の利便性を考えて敷設されたが、観光地として訪れるものがいなくなったため廃線となった。山の表面を削り、不知ノ森の一部を切り開くなどして敷設された日上山ケーブルカーに「祟り」の噂は絶えず、廃線となった今でも、無人車両に人影を見た、線路脇の森林に多くの人が立っているのを見た、などの噂が流れ、心霊スポットとして写真を撮りに訪れる者もいる。
Mt. Hikami Cable Car
Built with the intention of being convenient for tourists, but abandoned once the tourists stopped visiting. Cut into the mountain's surface and part of Shirazu Forest, there are rumours that the cable car is cursed, and even after being abandoned there are rumours that figures have been seen in the empty car, or many people being seen standing in the trees around the edge of the track, lots of people visiting the ghost spot to take photos.

日上山（ひかみやま）
密花と夕利が住む地方にある、標高700m程度の小さな山。昔はある民間信仰の霊域だったと言われているが、今は建物が幾つか残るだけで、その教えを伝えるものは無い。湧き出る水と、豊かな緑の残る美しい自然、温泉など豊富な観光資源に恵まれているため、観光地化を目指し開発が行われた時期もあったが、工事中に事故が頻発したことや、大規模な地滑りに見舞われたことから開発は中止となり、放置されたままになっている。かつて死ぬ者しか入れない霊域だったことや、現在も死を望む者が山に入り、行方不明になることから「自殺の名所」「心霊スポット」などと呼ばれている。
マヨイガ
多くの伝承や物語に登場する、実在しない幻の家。訪れた人に富を与えるとされている場合もある。日上山では、心霊現象の一つとして噂されており、迷い込んだ人は神隠しに遭い、二度と出られないと言われている。その家は隠世との境にあり、死者となった住人が今も住み続け、中に入った者は現世と隠世の間を彷徨う存在になるという。
火継堂（ひつぎどう）
日上山信仰で使われる特別な「火」である「忌火」の種火となる篝火を守っていた場所。「忌火」とは神道などで儀式に使われる火のことを指すが、日上山信仰での「忌火」は特別な役割を持っていた。その火には、隠世との境界である「黒キ澤」から溢れ出す夜泉の力を退ける力があり、黒キ澤に近づくには忌火が必要とされた。「火継守」と呼ばれる男たちは、厳しく精進潔斎し、忌火を絶やさぬよう守ったという。
黒キ澤（くろきさわ）
水上ノ宮から通じる場所にある巨大な黒い泉。その黒い水は黄泉の世界そのものであり、黒キ澤は隠世の入り口である。黒キ澤の上には、禍津陽が浮かんでおり、夕暮れの太陽のような赤い光が水面を照らしている。人々はその禍津陽の光に誘われ、隠世へと消えていく。
結ノ家（むすびのいえ）
柱となった巫女たちの婚礼が行われる家。既に柱として柩籠に入れられている巫女と、マレビトとして山に招かれた男が契りを結ぶ家であり、それは現世と隠世の間にある場所であるという。その屋敷には招かれた者でなければ入ることはおろか、見つけることもできない。屋敷内に招かれたマレビトは、待っている巫女たちの絵馬から、ひとりの巫女を選び、契りを結ぶ。婚礼の間、屋敷の奥にある「契りの間」に入ることができるのは、花婿であるマレビトのみであり、その時、選ばれた巫女はその瞬間だけ結ノ家に現れる。花嫁となった巫女は花婿を伴って再び柩籠の中へ入り、柱として沈められた場所に戻っていく。
骨董・喫茶 くろさわ
密花が店主を務める骨董屋兼カフェ。古い町家を改装し、玄関部分を店舗として、奥を自宅として使用している。元々は古いスタイルの骨董屋だったが、密花の趣味が高じてカフェも営業するようになった。落ち着いた雰囲気を持つカフェとして、少数ながら常連客がいる。また、この地方ではすでに珍しくなった失せもの探し「影見」を依頼する者や、密花に占いを頼みに来る者も訪れる。
水上ノ宮（みなかみのみや）
日上山の山頂にある彼岸湖に浮かぶように立てられた社。水の流れの源にあり、日上山を廻る水を守っていると言われている。入り口にある巨大な鳥居は、霧の薄い日に彼岸湖からも見ることができるが、本殿は災害で流されたといわれ、現存はしていない。建物の下には水が湧き出す場所があるとされているが、文献にわずかに記録が残されるくらいで、建物の構造を含め、詳細は不明である。
胎内洞窟（たいないどうくつ）
日上山全域に広がるといわれている溶岩洞窟。山中に多数の入り口が確認されており、その全てが内部で繋がっているといわれている。洞内には大量の水が流れており、通り抜けることができる場所は一部しかない。かつて、日上山では水を御神体として祭っていたとされていることから、山を体と見立て、体内に神を宿すという意味で、胎内洞窟と呼ばれるようになった、と伝えられている。そのため、洞内は神聖な場所であり、入り口には注連縄などが施され、立ち入りは制限されていた。観光化の時に行われたトンネル工事が洞窟の一部に繋がってしまい、トンネル内に大量の水が流れ込み、多くの死者が出るという事故があり、当時は「祟り」と騒がれた、と記録されている。
渡会邸（わたらいてい）
かつてこの山を調べていた民俗学者、渡会啓示が住んでいた、板葺き二階建ての民家。渡会の希望により不知ノ森の外れに建てられた。当時はケーブルカーやトンネル工事の前であり、交通の便も悪く人も訪れない場所に一人住み、日上山信仰を調べていた。地滑り等で工事は中止となり、山への人の立ち入りが制限されるようになった後、麓に駐在する巡査が数度、渡会邸を訪ねたが誰もおらず、その後の捜索にも拘らず消息はわからなかったため、行方不明とされた。その後、家自体も跡形もなく消え去った。当時は不思議がられたが、いつしか忘れられた存在となった。近年、心霊スポットとして有名になった日上山で、霧の中に現れる「マヨイガ」が噂となった。マヨイガでは日上山についての多くの書物があり、山から出られなくなった民俗学者がいまだ研究を続けている。家に入り、彼に見つかると、儀式の研究のために生贄とされてしまう、と噂されている。
放生邸（ほうじょうてい）
蓮の自宅。もとは実家である放生家の別宅であったが、今は蓮が累と二人で住んでいる。何の変哲も無い二階建の一軒屋。二階に蓮の書斎があり、蓮は一日のほとんどを本に囲まれて過ごしている。
