These dolls in red kimono are called Hozuki dolls and are a tradition of the Rogetsu Islands.
Their origin is not known for certain, but they are said by some to have originated as dolls made by parents in memory of their deceased children.
On some islands in the area, the dolls are said to be unlucky, but here on Rogetsu Isle they are placed in various different locations in order to ward off evil spirits.
