Old House
| ||||||||||||||||
The Old House is a big, western-style house found within Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, inside the Purple Diary. The player first encounters Maya there, and explores it during a small number of "illusion" sequences. This is also the house in which the Woman in Black dwells. People who find the diary begin to explore this house in dreams and visions, and eventually become trapped there when the curse takes hold.
When the house existed in the real world, Maya spent a great deal of time there in seclusion from the outside world. All year round, the house was bound in clematis vines which did not wither even during winter. This is where the villagers came to find Maya after she attempted to run away, and the ritual was performed here. After the ceremony failed, Maya woke in the house with memories of nothing but her own name.
Akira apparently lived near the Old House, and found the diary there. Page 6 of the Purple Diary has a drawing of a boy standing in front of a house with a white-haired woman inside, and the Japanese writing on Page 7 says, "I played hide and seek in the white manor in the hills behind my house."
Very little is known about the house's history, or even who owns it. Several rooms are seen during trailers and cutscenes, and during Spirit House mode, but it cannot be freely explored during gameplay.
Rooms
Portrait Hallway
This hallway is the first area explored by the player during the game. Its main feature is an ominous portrait of an unknown person. Maya stops the player from entering the shadowy room at the end of the hall, warning that the Woman in Black is in there.
Entrance
The main entrance of the house. This room is shown in the in-game cutscene in which Maya flees from the villagers before the ritual.
Small Tatami Room
A small room on the second floor, off the main entrance. This room is only shown in Spirit House mode.
Clematis Screen Room
A bedroom with a stained-glass screen depicting clematis vines. Shiori Hasebe attempted to hide in this room before the Woman in Black found her.
Round Window Room
A large room on the ground floor of the house. This room features prominently in the teaser trailer. The hallway that wraps around the outside of this room leads to the storehouse.
Storehouse
The storehouse at the back of the mansion is the room "behind the purple door", the site of the Tokoyomi Ritual and the centre of the calamity. It is where the Woman in Black took Kaito's face. During the game it is overgrown with clematis vines sprouting from a hole in the floor which leads down into darkness.
