I'm sorry that I haven't contacted you. I hope you are in good health.
I am currently renting out a boarding house near our hometown, and I'm finally starting to get my life here on track.
This is, of course, the first time I've been to the city, and since it has always been a rarity to get out of the village I went to great pains just to look around before I got settled.
Not only are there lots of intelligent teachers here, but I have also been allowed access to the books in their bountiful library, and so I think that I shall stay here for some time. I will keep living this way for the time being, but I intend to write to you when I have the time.
I did something inexcusable when I told you that I wanted to leave the village, and you came to see me off without questioning me.
If you would consent to it, someday I want to return to the village. Then, I want to keep my promise that I made to you back then.
