I hope, as always, you are doing well. Although it is the end of autumn, the weather here remains very warm.
Over the past few days, I have begun to have very peculiar dreams. In them, I am wandering, all alone, throughout an old mansion which appears to have existed for many generations. And not only once, either; I seem to be returning to the same place over and over.
Despite it being a splendid old building far more impressive than any of the houses in our hometown, something about it feels nostalgic to me. Could it be the mysterious marvel of dreams which makes me feel this way? It seems like the sort of thing that everyone experiences once or twice in their lives, but the impression it leaves with me upon waking is so vivid that I could not help but write it down.
Please be sure to give my best regards to all of the people to whom I was unable to say my farewells when I left the village. True though it is, as you say, that my lack of knowledge regarding the circumstances of my birth has at times pained me due to my position, I still feel an indescribable affection for the place in which I was brought up.
If it is all right with you, I should be glad to hear how life has been treating you recently, too.

雪代零華 殿
変はらず元気にしてゐるであらうか。
こちらは秋の終わりとはいゑ、とても暖かな気候が続いてゐる。
僕はここ数日、なんとも不思議な夢を見るやうになつた。
何代も続くような古い屋敷を
たつたひとりで彷徨つてゐるのだ。
しかも一度きりのものではなく
繰り返しゝゝ同じ場所にやつて来てゐるらしい。
故郷の家とは比べものにならない立派な旧家であるのに
なぜか懐かしい感じがしてしまうのが
夢の不思議というものなのであらうか。
誰しも一度や二度は経験しさうなものだが
目覚めたあとも余りに鮮明な印象を残すので
つい、書き綴つてしまつた。
村を離れるときにきちんと挨拶出来なかつた
皆さんにもぜひ宜しく伝へてくれたまえへ。
君の云うやうに、確かに僕は
自分の生まれが判らぬということで立場上辛い思ひもしたが
それでも私を育ててくれたあの場所に
云い様のない愛着を感じゐるのだよ。
そしてよかつたら、君の近況も知らせてくれると嬉しく思ふ。
