The countless hands I saw reach out from the Umbral Mound - their very existence defies all logic.
Knowing what I do, I believe the Umbral Mound was created to lay outsiders-turned-kusabi to rest. Or, more accurately, it was erected to seal away the enmity of such individuals.
Fortunately, the Camera Obscura that I borrowed from Dr. Asou can purge such ostensibly inexplicable entities, allowing me to escape in one piece. That does not mean that all of my troubles and misfortune are behind me, however.
At this point, I cannot help but wonder why we were welcomed into this village, let alone permitted to investigate it. And why has our every move been watched as we roam the village?
I believe the answer to that is simple: Ryozo and I were invited into Minakami Village in order to serve as sacrifices in the Shadow Ritual and be turned into kusabi.
The fact that the Umbral Mound exists lends credence to the theory of the Gate to Hell existing where kusabi were previously offered up, as well.
Crucially, I now know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the powers of the Camera Obscura are genuine. If its lens can capture that which the human eye isn't meant to see, then I suspect it can uncover the true form of the Gate to Hell. Dangerous or not, this must be investigated further.
However, that is a task best left to me and me alone. Before I do anything else, I must get Ryozo out of this village as soon as possible.

「陰塚」から伸びた無数の手。あれはまさに「あ
りえないもの」だった。
おそらく、この「陰塚」は「楔」となったマレビト
たちを弔うために、
いやその怨嗟を縛り付け封じるために作られたも
のだ。
私は麻生博士から借り受けた射影機で「ありえな
いもの」を消し去り、難を逃れた。
だが、この身に降りかかる災いは消えていない。
なぜ、我々は歓待され村を調査することを許され
たのか。
なぜ、村を回っているときに視線を感じていたの
か。
おそらく、私と宗方は「陰祭」の贄である「楔」と
なるために招かれたのだ。
だが、この「陰塚」があるということは「楔」を捧
げた「黄泉の門」がある証左かもしれない。
射影機の力は本物だ。
見てはならない場所をも写し、「黄泉の門」の正
体を残すこともできるだろう。
危険を厭わず、より深く探らねば。
その前に、せめて宗方だけでも早くこの村から逃
がさねばなるまい。
