The day of the Rougetsu Kagura draws near.

Once again, the festival will be overflowing with visitors. Some of our prefecture's celebrities will be attending, as well. Opening the kagura to the public has brought this island a measure of fame and wealth.

This time, however, we've also had to make preparations for the "other side" of the festival.

You has prepared selections for the Kanade. The true Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is complete.

...The Kiraigou is restored.

The Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has long been considered a thing to be abhorred, as it once caused a shrine maiden to bloom, bringing about the Day Without Suffering and nearly destroying this island.

However, with true Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, the Kiraigou will put the Utsuwa, my gravely ill daughter, on the path to recovery.

It is our last resort against this disease.

During the Rougetsu Kagura, the mask of the Utsuwa causes a loss of self, but the Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is said to instantaneously erase all of one's memories. It wanes the ego to nothing, bringing it away to a primordial place, where it is cleansed and thereafter restored.

...If the Kiraigou is successful, our long, ceaseless struggle against Getsuyuu Syndrome will finally come to an end...

My wife, tormented by her belief that our daughter's illness was all her fault, took her own life... It's been so long since that day.

Looking back, perhaps it was a blessing that she never had to see our daughter like this...

The fruits of this reserach, I here dedicate...to her.

神楽の日が近い。

朧月神楽は、今回も客であふれるだろう。
県の名士もやってくる。
神楽の公開は、朧月島の名を高め、
さまざまな富をもたらしてくれた。

今回は「裏」の方の準備も
進めなくてはならない。

奏の方は、すべて耀がそろえてくれる。
真の月蝕の面は完成した。

⋯帰来迎は復活する。

月蝕の面は咲いた巫女を作り
島を滅ぼしかけた無苦の日を
もたらしたとして、
忌むべきものと畏れられてきた。

しかし、真の月蝕の面による帰来迎は、
器を⋯重症の娘を快癒に向かわせるだろう。

月蝕の面は、月幽病治療の最後の一手だ。

朧月神楽における器の面は
自我をなくしていく面だが、
月蝕の面は、一瞬にしてすべての記憶を消し、
根源的な場所へと連れだした後、
自我は洗われて戻ってくるという。

⋯この帰来迎が成功すれば、
長かった月幽病との戦いも
終わりを迎える⋯

娘の病を全て自分の責任と思い込み
悩み続けた妻が自ら命を絶った⋯
あの日から、もう随分と経ってしまった。

⋯今思えば、娘のあの姿を見ないで
すんだのは幸せだったのかも知れない。

この研究の成果を⋯亡き妻に捧げる。
