Tsugumi

Shadow Priestess Character Tsugumi "..." Kanji/Kana 鶫 Alias — Occupation Assistant at Karasawa Shrine Status Alive Cause of Death — First Appearance Chapter 6

Tsugumi is a character in Fatal Frame: Shadow Priestess. She and her twin sister Mozu are the great-granddaughters of Sara's Grandmother, and work as assistants at the Karasawa Shrine. In addition to their more mundane role as attendants at the inn, they are trained in dealing with evil spirits, although only the Shadow Priestess is able to exorcise them properly. They can create spiritual barriers using shimenawa, paper talismans (ofuda) and kagura suzu, and can use phials of sacred water from the shrine to weaken lesser spirits.

Using these techniques, they protect Professor Koutari and Midori from Tooru Nue after he becomes possessed. Working together, the four are able to evade the ghosts pursuing them and find their way to rejoin the rest of the group. Later, they also create a barrier to protect Maya Mikogami after she passes out from exhaustion, and appear in the nick of time to same Beniko and Reiji from attacking spirits.

When the Necromancer's identity is revealed, Mozu and Tsugumi distract her by throwing holy water, giving Sara time to use the Camera Obscura. They escape the school with the others and return to the shrine, and are last seen with their great-grandmother, saying goodbye to Sara.

• Tsugumi and Mozu both have bird names: Tsugumi means "thrush" and Mozu means "shrike".
