Narumi Amanuma is a character in Fatal Frame: Shadow Priestess. She is a senior in the modern architecture seminar that Sara Washizuki attends. Mr. Koutari selects her and Tooru Nue to be in charge of organising the class trip to Karasawa Elementary. She wears round glasses and prim, old-fashioned clothing. She is largely quiet on the first day of the trip, but does make a pointed comment about Sara's "un-Japanese" brown hair on the first night at the Karasawa Shrine.

When the group travels to the elementary school the next day, Narumi is the first to be attacked by a ghost. Sara and Tousei Ryuuzaki are concerned that a bond has now formed between Narumi and the spirit, which might open her to further attacks.

As the group explores the school, Narumi ends up separated from the others and alone with Jun Takakura on two occasions. As they face danger and escape ghosts together, they begin to develop feelings for one another, although Narumi refuses to admit it. When Sara asks later why the two are holding hands, Narumi becomes flustered and insists she's only trying to keep him out of danger.

While they are alone together and wandering through an illusory graveyard, Jun reveals to Narumi that Karasawa Village was his mother's hometown, and she was most likely a student at Karasawa Elementary. He believes it is no coincidence that he has ended up here, and asks Narumi whether she has any similar connection to the area. At that moment, they meet the ghost of an old man seated in a clearing, and Narumi instantly recognises her grandfather, who died a decade ago. Jun warns her to beware of illusions, but Narumi pays no heed. Jun struggles to reach her, impeded by decaying hands rising from the ground, when Narumi's real grandfather appears in the form of a ragged skeleton. Narumi rejects the impostor, who resumes his true form as an evil spirit.

In moments, Jun and Narumi are surrounded by the dead. Narumi's real grandfather calls out and reminds her of the special charm he made for her, a god pendant carved from stone, which she still wears everywhere. Holding it up, she recites the prayer he taught her: "Please cleanse and purify this place, O gods and uncanny spirits. Bring us good fortune." This repels the spirits and destroys the illusion of the graveyard, returning them to the school hallway once more. There Narumi meets the real spirit of her grandfather, who explains that he was a stonemason who helped build the school, only to be crushed when part of the building collapsed during renovations. Before his form dissolves, he warns Jun and Narumi of a traitor in their group.

Later, when Sara finds out about Narumi's charm, she believes it has greater significance than Narumi suspected, and that it will be important to saving them all. Sara prays with the charm for guidance, and it reveals a way through the labyrinth where they have been lost.

Following the climactic battle with the Necromancer, the school begins to collapse. The only escape is through the swimming pool. Narumi is afraid to enter the water as she is unable to swim, but Jun grabs her hand and pulls her with him, leading her to safety. The final scenes show Narumi and Jun out for a walk together back in Tokyo.
