Regarding the patient in the fourth floor isolation ward,
Her condition remains somewhat stable for the time being, but we are still unable to predict when she might rapidly deteriorate again. Moreover, the nurse who referred to her as the "woman without a face" recently committed suicide.
For reasons unknown, she suddenly ran into the sickroom and killed herself right in front of the patient.
There were signs she was becoming increasingly afraid of her for a little while now.
But I just don't understand why she would go to her room in spite of that fear.
She'd been seen loitering in the vicinity of the metal bars, but...
When we discovered what had happened, the room was a dreadful scene. However, the patient was just sitting on her bed as usual. Smiling... I think.
To be honest, I have a hard time recalling her face, myself...
Apparently this isn't the first incident like this. The other nurses are worried, too.
Rather than to prevent the patient from getting out, could those bars be there to prevent others from seeing her...?

四階特別隔離室の患者について
彼女の容態は
今はやや安定しているが、
いつまた病状が急激に悪化するか
予断を許さない状態だ。
先日、特別隔離室の患者を
「顔の無い人」と呼んでいた
看護婦が自殺した。
なぜか突発的に特別隔離室に
走っていき、患者の目の前で
自殺したらしい。
少し前から、過度に彼女に怯える
兆候はあった。
しかし、怯えているにもかかわらず、
なぜ彼女のところに行ったのかは
わからない。
鉄格子のあたりをうろうろしていたのを
注意したことはあったのだが⋯。
発見されたとき、部屋は
大変なことになっていたが、
彼女はいつものように
ベッドに座って⋯微笑んでいたと思う。
私も、彼女の顔をなかなか
思い出すことができないのだ⋯。
以前にも似たようなことがあったらしく、
他の看護婦も、怯えている。
あの鉄格子は、患者を出さない
ためというより、だれも彼女に会わない
ように防ぐためのものではないか⋯。
