Midori Hazawa is a character in Fatal Frame: Shadow Priestess. She is a senior in the modern architecture seminar that Sara Washizuki attends. She aggressively maintains order on the class trip, threatening to beat up Jun Takakura if he tries using it as an opportunity to flirt with the girls. She goes searching for Kumi Suzumori when she is absent from dinner on the first night, and when it becomes apparent that Kumi has vanished, Midori is in favour of calling the police, in case she has been kidnapped by a pervert.

The next day, in spite of Kumi's disappearance, the group goes to Karasawa Elementary. A manifestation of evil spirits at the pool causes the group to scatter and become divided. Midori, Professor Koutari, Jun, Tooru and Narumi wander the school trying to find Sara again, but instead meet Kumi, who has become an evil spirit. She possesses Tooru, but focuses most of her aggression on Professor Koutari, revealing that they were in a relationship until he dumped her. Midori and Koutari, separated from Jun and Narumi, run into a dead end, but are saved by Mozu and Tsugumi. Midori is outraged that Professor Koutari would have become romantically involved with one of his students, and blames him for seeding the resentment that caused Kumi to attack them. She leads the way as they set off to look for Sara, warning Koutari that his life is still in danger from the Kumi/Tooru creature.

Almost immediately they are attacked by many ghostly arms emerging from the walls. They defend themselves with holy water that Mozu and Tsugumi gave them. Koutari grabs Midori's hand to pull her along, and she angrily accuses him of trying to seduce her, but in spite of their bickering, the two continue to hold hands as they make their escape. They take refuge in the Principal's Office, and Mozu and Tsugumi seal the door with paper talismans.

Professor Koutari finds a blueprint of the school, and upon studying it, discovers a hidden passageway leading from the Principal's Office to Classroom 3-2. They follow it, and are reunited with the rest of the group.

When they try to leave the classroom, however, they find themselves in a strange forest, where the ground is hidden beneath a lake of blood. As they make their way through, they are attacked by evil spirits. Midori uses her sacred water to fight off the spirit of Mikiko Hashiki, only to find herself separated from the others. A shadowy figure emerges from the forest, and Midori recognises her as Shizuka, her dead grandmother. She died when Midori was very young, but appears to Midori as an illusion drawn from buried memories, explaining that she was once a teacher at Karasawa Elementary. As the apparition speaks to her, Midori recalls things from her childhood that she had forgotten: playing cat's cradle with her grandmother and looking at photos of her from her teacher days. Sara exorcises the spirit and saves Midori from being trapped and spirited away.

Sara is separated from the group as they make their way through the school. Professor Koutari leads the way to the photography club room, but he and Midori keep stopping to argue. As they walk, Midori falls under the malevolent influence of Kumi Suzumori, whose spirit is not yet cleansed. Kumi plays on Midori's hatred of predatory men, and finally tells her that Professor Koutari is the necromancer. Midori draws a knife, and at the same moment, Koutari turns on her.

The necromancer raises a spiritual barrier to prevent anyone from interfering in the confrontation. Tousei attempts to distract Kumi using his camera's flash, and Midori's suspicions are raised when she catches a glimpse of Kumi's face in the light, smiling horribly. Lunging forward, she pretends to stab Professor Koutari, allowing the blade to draw blood from her own hand. When Kumi begins to gloat, Midori takes it as proof that everything she said was a lie. She realises that Kumi has been whispering to both of them, trying to turn them against one another, and both were half convinced that the other was the necromancer. Offering Professor Koutari the knife, she confesses that she is falling in love with him. In spite of Kumi screaming at him, Koutari cannot bring himself to stab Midori. In her rage, Kumi becomes visible at last, and Midori drives her away with a single blow.
