The Kiryu house appears to serve as a place where the twin maidens reside for an extended period while they undergo ritual purification.
During this cleansing process, the twins are not allowed to leave the manor grounds, with one exception: They may also visit the second of the Twin Houses, the Tachibana house, via the Heavenly and Earthly Bridges.
When walking from the Tachibana house to the Kiryu house, the Heavenly Bridge on the second floor is used, whereas the opposite route is taken utilizing the Earthly Bridge, which sits underground.
Speaking of which, the Earthly Bridge also connects to the Deep Path, the sprawling cavern system that lies beneath the village.
What's more, something none are allowed to gaze upon reportedly lies within the innermost sanctum of the Deep Path.
Only a selection of senior priests are permitted entry into the area, as well as a special group of individuals known as mourners.
If this place is where the Gate to Hell lies, then I suppose the Hidden Ceremony is likely conducted underground.
