The Underground Passageway, known as the Deep Path in Deep Crimson Butterfly, is the long passage underneath the Kurosawa House that leads to the Hellish Abyss. At one point it was a network of linked passages and caves, used to get between houses, but by the time Mio and Mayu entered the Lost Village, a series of collapses had made it impassable in many places. The Earth Bridge[1], the cellar beneath the Osaka House and the path beneath the Kureha Shrine[2] were all once part of the same system - in the final chapter, the player can see into the Osaka basement from the last section of the passageway. Some of the dry wells in Minakami were connected to the caves, and the movement of the wind caused a resonant, eerie sound.[3]
The passageway is haunted by the Mourners. As Mourners were not allowed above ground, they lived underground in the passage instead.[4]
The priests, Twin Shrine Maidens and Kusabi sacrifices all entered the passageway via the Rope Temple in Kurosawa House. Part of the passage was lined with the bodies of failed Kusabi, who died during the Cutting Ritual and were therefore not fit to be used as sacrifices.[5]

Misc. Info
- In parts of the passageway, the Veiled Priests can be heard chanting faintly. Miyako Sudo also describes hearing a song-like sound from behind the Osaka family altar, presumably the same chant.
- There are a number of cave-ins along the passage; while it is known that these blocked areas are other houses and key ritual locations in the village, the only one that is actually visible is the Osaka House's basement.
