At last, the preparations for the Rite of Descent have reached their final stages. Director Haibara has given the order to bring Sakuya.
She seemed very calm as she was led from her room.
Her condition has been so unstable until recently, I wasn't sure she would make it to the day of the ceremony, but there she was, sitting down, cool and collected.
When our eyes met, she looked at me with a smiling expression that seemed to see right through me, through everything.
Until now, I was never able to keep the face of the "one with no face" in my mind, but I can finally see it clearly.
I never realized she had such a kind face.
But soon Sakuya will put on that mask, and her face will be hidden from view once more... Eclipsed...
I want to look at her face a little while longer before she's brought to the director's office. Who can say if I'll ever lay eyes on her face again?

いよいよ帰来迎の準備が
最終段階に入り、朔夜を連れて
行くようにと院長の命令があった。
朔夜の容態は穏やかだった。
先日まではあれほど錯乱していて、
今日まで持つかわからないと
さえ思ったのに、今日の朔夜は、
凛とした たたずまいで座っていた。
そして私を見て、
すべてを見透かしているかのような
微笑みを浮かべた。
これまで、この「顔の無い人」の
顔を、なかなか思い出すことが
できなかったが、ようやく
顔がはっきりとわかった。
こんな優しい顔をしているとは
気づかなかった。
しかし朔夜は、
もうすぐあの面を被り、
ふたたびこの顔は隠れてしまう⋯
今、院長室に連れて行く間に、
もうすこしこの人の顔を
見ておくことにしよう。
