Kidnapped Girls
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
A term in reference to the five girls who were kidnapped on Rogetsu Isle in the 1970s, part of the background plot to Fatal Frame IV. These girls were taken by Yo Haibara to participate as Organs, and perform a secret version of the Rogetsu Kagura. They were all patients suffering from Moonlight Syndrome.
In the game, the kidnapped girls are referred to as Spirited Aways. Technically, spirited aways are people who disappear and are considered to be kidnapped by spirits, while the girls were kidnapped by a living person; however, the disappearance of the girls during a disastrous festival, and the habit of Moonlight Syndrome patients to wander at night, led islanders to put a more spiritual slant on the disappearances.
When the Rite of Descent failed the girls collapsed, losing all their memories of what had happened to them. For the next two weeks they were kept underground in the Moonglow Cavern, where Shigeto Haibara observed the effects of moonlight upon their condition. They were discovered and returned to their families by Choshiro Kirishima, a detective who was working on their case.
Ten years after they were kidnapped, two of the girls, Tomoe and Marie died under mysterious circumstances, their faces twisted in horrific expressions, similar to the circumstances of the mysterious deaths of the other islanders eight years before. Searching for clues to their past, and hoping to evade a similar fate, Misaki and Madoka traveled to Rogetsu Isle in search of answers. They were soon followed by Ruka Minazuki and Choshiro Kirishima, now a private detective, who was sent by Ruka's mother Sayaka Minazuki to bring her daughter back.
