Soan Yomotsuki was the ancestor of Soetsu Yomotsuki and Soya Yomotsuki. He was the first member of the Yomotsuki family to become a mask artisan,[1] which then became the family craft. Unlike other mask artisans, Soan carved masks to symbolise the souls of the dead, rather than gods or stock ritual roles.
