Byakuya is a character mentioned in Fatal Frame IV. She lived long ago on Rogetsu Isle and was the ancestor of the Vessels in the Rite of Descent. It is said she had a vision while preparing for her role, and thereafter the cavern in the Primeval Passage became the traditional place where Vessels underwent their training, learning to enter a mental state like death through meditation without losing their sense of self.[1]

- Byakuya's name means "a hundred nights". She is only mentioned in one document, and because of grammatical ambiguity, fan translations of this note originally interpreted her name as a reference to the duration of the Vessel's training.
