It turns out that one end of the Earthly Bridge, which links the Kiryu and Tachibana houses together, leads to the Deep Path.
This underground passage doesn't seem manmade. By all appearances, it's existed since ancient times.
In fact, it may be the case that Minakami Village was built atop the Deep Path, with the Kiryu and Tachibana houses constructed over the passageway proper.
Although I can make out the main path that constitutes the Deep Path from the Earthly Bridge, the location of its entrance remains a mystery to me.
I think I'll try investigating Eikado Temple, the structure visible from the shores of Tomonaki Pond.
Eikado Temple's main feature is its pair of rooftops, resembling twins. Numerous flames are lit within the premises, which I was told serve to pay respects to the souls of those lost in disasters of the distant past. Hence it strikes me as perfectly reasonable for the entrance to the Deep Path to lie within the walls of Eikado Temple. By my reckoning, the flames may serve to seal off the path in order to prevent any further calamities from striking.
