Eikado Temple is a new explorable location added in Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. It is a candlelit temple located behind the Kiryu House, on the shore of Tomonaki Pond. Its main hall enshrines twin Buddha statues bound together by red cords, similar to the ones in the Altar Room in Kurosawa House. A second floor walkway passes above the main hall, leading from the main entrance to the rear grounds. The many candles burning in the main hall, like the ones underground at the sacrificial altar, commemorate souls lost in past disasters and create a spiritual barrier against similar calamities in the future.[1][2] A hidden trapdoor into the floor leads down to a section of the Deep Path, and one partially-collapsed passage gives a view into the chamber where failed Kusabi were enshrined.[3]
Notable Events
- Eikado Temple is where the village priests would perform their devotions before proceeding to Kureha Shrine.[4]
- Seijiro Makabe visited in his search for the way to the Hellish Abyss, and made note of the mummified failed Kusabi underground.
- The children of the village played hide-and-seek here the day before the Repentance, guided by the spirit of Azami Kiryu. It is mentioned as the place where Azami and the children were able to speak to each other for the first time.[5]
Misc. Info
- The temple's name is written with the kanji 鍈, meaning the sound of a bell,[6] and 火, meaning fire.
