The River Styx (Souzu River) is the name of a river that flows through the underground tunnels beneath Rogetsu Isle. Its exact function in the island's rituals is unknown, although it might have played a role in the cleansing and meditation ceremonies carried out in the caves. Many wooden grave tablets are standing upright in the flow of the water.
Misc. Info
- Souzu River means "river between this world and the beyond". The name is a synonym for the Sanzu River (三途の川) in Japanese Buddhist mythology.
- In the unofficial translation, it is marked as the "Sotou River" on the map.
- The river's name in the remaster, River Styx, is a reference to a mythological river in the underworld of Ancient Greek mythology, comparable to the Buddhist Sanzu River.
